Planar Systems PX2710MW 27-Inch VGA Monitor Reviews
39 of 39 people found the following review helpful IF YOU GET A BLACK BORDER around your screen w/HDMI @ 1920x1080, November 23, 2011 By FamilyMan (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews This review is from: Planar Systems PX2710MW 27-Inch VGA Monitor (Electronics) First, Great Monitor--don't let others fool you.
Second, don't ask me how long this took to find... i'm posting a tip here to save you time in case you own a Dell PC with a built-in ATI video card, or just one from ATI that might give you this problem...
If you get a black border (empty space) around your screen while using HDMI at 1920x1080, then don't give up! It's a VIDEO CARD setting ATI caused due to overscanning that can be fixed! It is not a problem w/ the monitor.
The over and under scan (scaling options) are quite buried in the new ATI Catalyst Control Center. But if you know where to look the scaling options are really easy to get to...
1) Right click on the Desktop and open Catalyst Control Center 9.9
2) Switch to Advanced mode if you are not there already
3) Click dropdown menu Graphics in the top right
4) Select Desktops and Displays
5) Right Click your currently activated display under `Please Select a... Read more
14 of 14 people found the following review helpful Awesome gaming monitor, June 13, 2011 By Dan E. (Orland Park, IL United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Planar Systems PX2710MW 27-Inch VGA Monitor (Electronics) I bought this after trying the hp 2711x. The hp monitor had a very glossy display so reflections showed up easily. It can be distracting when you're viewing a dark image on the screen. I never heard of planar before, but I decided I'd give them a try since they had what I was looking for. It has a matte display so you don't have to deal with any reflections. Out of the box the colors are just right. I liked the default brightness, but it can be adjusted if it's too bright. Text appears better than on the 2711x. This is a real plug in and play monitor. I hooked it up and started playing my favorite games. 27 inches is awesome for gaming even though the resolution is only 1080p. Oh and the monitor came packaged very good. There were no dead pixels and very minimal back-light bleed at the edge of the monitor. When all is said and done, this is a headache free display with good image quality. Good luck and thanks for reading.
13 of 13 people found the following review helpful Awesome monitor at $250 - worth getting while it is available, October 18, 2010 This review is from: Planar Systems PX2710MW 27-Inch VGA Monitor (Electronics) Overall the monitor is great, even more so at $250.00 (search around for this price).
Pros:
-size, brightness, and resolution
-built-in speakers
-vga, dvi, hdmi connectors
-no problems unpacking and setting up
Cons:
-no way to adjust height (I used a ream of paper under the base and solved the problem)
-the volume from the speakers is good, but they do sound tiny (but I prefer this to standalone speakers, so it works for me)
It is great for working with photographs and multiple documents.
This is the third Planar monitor I own, upgrading to a larger size, and they have all been great (I always go for the built-in speakers models). I highly recommend this, specially at this price point.
